Major vision issues during deployment

The Mission

MUSE set out to solve the realities of modern retail: labor shortages, physical burnout, and the growing need for real-time store data. Armo was designed as a collaborative robot coworker - handling heavy transport and automated shelf scanning so store teams can focus on customer service and high-value operations.

The Mission

Vision Challenges

Retail autonomy requires reliable perception in complex, human-first spaces:

  • Navigate busy aisles safely while detecting people and moving obstacles.
  • Handle variable lighting conditions typical of grocery and convenience stores.
  • Run multiple vision tasks (detection + depth + mapping) without overloading the main CPU.
  • Maintain stability and responsiveness at scale - no “buggy” features or unreliable behavior.

The Solution: Built with OAK

MUSE redesigned Armo’s architecture around Luxonis Edge AI. Instead of running high-resolution vision and AI models on the robot’s main PC, Armo offloads intensive perception to the OAK onboard AI chip. This keeps the central computer cool and responsive while Armo continuously runs human/obstacle detection, door recognition, and environmental perception in real time.

The Solution: Built with OAK

Why Luxonis

Luxonis gave MUSE a stable, scalable vision stack for retail autonomy - turning OAK devices into Armo’s dedicated “visual cortex” while keeping the main PC free for higher-level robotics tasks.

On-device inference offloads intensive perception workloads and preserves system responsiveness.

Modular form factor enables tight, sleek integration into Armo’s chassis without bulky hardware.

Reliable hardware + software ecosystem that worked as advertised during deployment and testing.

Cost-effective scaling from prototypes to larger fleets without breaking unit economics.

With Luxonis Edge AI, MUSE scaled Armo from prototype to fleet-ready retail automation - delivering safe navigation, real-time shelf intelligence, and a better customer experience without sacrificing performance or design.
